What's Going On Now
• Currently, AAGIE is working with the City of Upland to make changes to the Fire Safety Inspections being conducted in apartments.
• AAGIE has sent letters to the City Council in Barstow regarding a proposed inspection ordinance. Although the ordinance has yet to go to Council, AAGIE has been watching closely to make sure nothing objectionable comes up.

Help AAGIE track local ordinances and resolutions in your city! If something comes up, call the Public Affairs department and let us know so we can take action on your behalf.
As a member of the Apartment Association Greater Inland Empire, you will have an advocate on your team to fight for your rights as a rental housing owner. AAGIE works hard tracking the latest ordinances affecting the rental housing industry in cities throughout the Inland Empire. Through the use of newspapers, press releases, and monitoring city council agendas, AAGIE Government Affairs keeps up to date in more than 60 cities.

AAGIE has worked hard to create a comprehensive list of cities served and the ordinances each city has regarding rental housing. Please refer to the green insert box at right for an update. You can keep track of all the legislative activities through the AAGIE magazine or here on the website!

What We’ve Done
• In Loma Linda we worked to stop a fee-based inspection ordinance from passing. Our efforts were successful as we talked to the city council and made them understand why the ordinance was unneeded.

• In the County of San Bernardino, AAGIE worked closely with County Supervisor Hansberger and his staff to develop an ordinance that would meet his and AAGIE’s goals. The result was a simple business license fee with the option to waive the fee with participation in the renowned Crime Free Multi-Housing Program.

• AAGIE has worked with the city of Ontario to create a fee-based inspection ordinance that meets the goals of the city as well as Association members. While the final ordinance did not meet all the goals of the Association, it does give the program a trial time period, after which AAGIE will again work with the city to make changes.

Firestorm 2007
In October 2007, Southern California was devastated by enormous wildfires in all five counties. AAGIE, along with the other Southern California CAA chapters, came together to create a list of members who were willing to offer special concessions to families who had lost their homes. Some members offered a waived security deposit, short term leases, waived application fees, reduced rent, and even 6 months free rent.
The efforts garnered media attention as many families were in desperate need. Watch the video at right to see how AAGIE helped families seek housing in difficult times.

Each of the chapters, Apartment Association Greater Inland Empire, South Coast Apartment Association, San Diego County Apartment Association, and CAA Los Angeles, received a humanitarian award from the California Apartment Association for their dedication to improving lives.
